Broadway offers a stunning range of shows that are guaranteed to give you a great night out, whatever your own personal tastes might be. Everyone is familiar with the old favourites such as 'Gypsy', 'A Chorus Line', 'Grease' and 'The Lion King', but if you only see the established favourites you run the risk of missing out on a whole new crop of shows that are only just seeing the light of day.
So what is there to look forward to? You’ll be glad to know that there is something to appeal to everyone, so if you are looking for some ideas to surprise your loved one for a weekend away you are sure to find something suitable.
The classic play 'Speed the Plow' by David Mamet is about to be revived for Broadway – an ideal way to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the play itself. If you have been watching Jeremy Piven in the television series 'Entourage' you will be delighted to know he is taking on one of the lead roles.
If you are more inclined to see a musical you have plenty to choose from here too. “A Catered Affair” is an entertaining musical which has just made its debut on Broadway. It is written by Harvey Fierstein, who also stars in the lead role as Uncle Winston.
'A Catered Affair' is set in the 1950s but if you want something a little more up to date then try 'In The Heights', a musical set in modern day Washington Heights that has received rave reviews and award nominations.
And if those aren’t your style, why not go for something completely different and give 'Shrek the Musical' a try? You’ll need to wait until the end of 2008 to see this, but all the indications are that it will be worth the wait.
There’s certainly plenty to choose from and once you have booked your tickets for the Broadway show of your choice you can think about booking a room for the night to really make the most it, and a Central Park hotel in New York would certainly fit the bill! For starters Central Park is very close to all the best theatres on Broadway, making travel easy and meaning you can get back to your hotel room in double quick time once the show has finished.
Booking an overnight stay not only turns an evening out into a weekend away, it also means you don’t have to worry about getting back home late at night. What’s more, there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself the next day too; you can get up late and go and find a wonderful cafe to have breakfast in before indulging in some shopping.
So if you want to see a whole new side of Broadway, make sure you don’t miss the latest shows on offer right now.
