The style of your dress is the single most important factor in creating your overall look on your wedding day. Wedding dresses can range from sleek and simple to grand and elaborate. The style of wedding dress you choose depends on your personal taste and the statement you want to make on your big day. The silhouette of your wedding dress is the first image that your groom will see when you begin your walk down the aisle, and you want to make sure that your first impression is a memorable one.

There are five basic styles of wedding dresses which are the following: Column, Empire, Ball Gown, A-line/Princess, Mermaid/Fishtail.

My reason for outlining each of these silhouettes is to provide you with the necessary information you need to find the dress that is best suited for you. Walking into a bridal store with a clear idea of what you want, you will be save yourself a lot of stressful moments. There are no a rigid rules in wedding dress designs so you owe it to yourself to remain open minded when tying on gowns. You will never know what you look like in certain styles if you never try them on. Who knows, the style that you may think would look the worst on your body type might just be the one you end up choosing.

An A-line style is best for a full-figured woman because it lengthens the whole body and detracts from the waistline. The empire waist may be another good choice because it is narrowest just below the bust and hides your waist and hips. Taking these tips can help you feel like the most beautiful bride in the world.

Scoop necks and deep V-necks compliment curved figures, and always look best on full-figured women. Paying attention to these suggestions and styles can make a big difference in how you will feel about yourself on that special day.

Whereas A-line wedding dresses flatter a petite woman they should avoid sheaths. Sheaths seem to shorten a small body. Full skirts do not flatter a petite woman either as they can tend to make them appear bottom heavy.

Be careful with strapless gowns. A cap sleeve gives the feeling of a strapless gown, and also serves the practical purpose of holding the gown in place.

Off-the-shoulder gowns look wonderful on a full bust because it draws attention upward and emphasizes the shoulders and minimizes the chest. Keep your skirt narrow because wearing a full skirt will make you look large both on top and bottom.

Women who are larger through their hips and buttocks should look for a wedding dress that focuses on their upper body and preferably has a full skirt. Show off your arms, back and chest.

Wearing a corset-style bodice that laces up will bring attention to your upper body. An A-line skirted wedding dress will work better than pleats and gathered fabric near your waist that certainly will attract attention to your hips.
